So much to learn about enamel wear.  I just think it is a beautiful product but for all the technical and important information here is the lowdown from our producer:

Enamel Products are still manufactured today using the original specifications and traditions highlighting the authenticity and uniqueness of each piece

Each piece is extruded from Carbon Steel, then washed prior to the enamelling process which is done entirely by hand using food safe enamel.

After each application the piece is fired so as to fuse the enamel glass particles onto the carbon steel or previously based colour. This process creates the gloss surface

Enamel is dishwasher safe

Even though enamel can chip it can still be safely used due to non-leaching properties of carbon steel. This characteristic gives the enamel piece the much sought-after vintage look, even when chipped enamel pieces can still be used, however drying is highly recommended

Enamel pieces are 100% recyclable, however porcelain when damaged is porous and needs to be disposed of in landfill as porcelain is not recyclable

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Dishwasher safe.
  • Do not scrub with abrasive materials on the enamel surface. Clean with a soap-scouring pad or sponge.
  • Use sharp utensils with care to prevent scratching.
  • Do not use enamelware in the microwave.
  • Allowing enamelware to boil dry can damage the enamel.
  • If enamelware is left empty on a hot burner or in a heated oven, switch off and allow to cool slowly adding liquid.
  • Enamel coated steel is hard and tough, however like all good ceramic finishes this may chip if mishandled.
  • Ensure that your enamelware is thoroughly washed dried between uses to maintain the appearance.

Please be aware that every precaution is taken to minimise any slight imperfections. By understanding the nature of the product and with proper care, this enamelware should last for many years to come.

  • Minor surface irregularities and unfinished edges are a normal result of the metalworking and enamelling process.
  • As with any kind of dinnerware, some scratching and dulling of the surface may occur over time
